BIO
Letta Shtohryn (UA / AT) works across XR performance, motion capture, game dev and generative AI.
In her practice, she brings speculative storytelling into live immersive environments that investigate embodiment in relation to non-human life forms, machines, avatars, monsters, and ghosts. Drawing inspiration from intuitive epistemologies, archaeology, history, weirdness, sci-fi and video games, she employs speculation to explore both factual and fictional storytelling and their effects IRL.
Her project Чули? Чули / Chuly? Chuly (2024) received an Honorary Mention in New Animation Art at Prix Ars Electronica 2024. Key residencies include the nine-month MoCap Streamer residency at Goldsmiths, University of London (2022), focused on multi-user remote motion capture streaming, and the XR residency at IMAL, Brussels, as part of Realities in Transition (2024). Both have been formative to her ongoing exploration of motion capture systems, liveness, and performance in XR.
Letta's academic background spans Visual arts, Philosophy (focus on ontology, epistemology) and Sociology (focus on Sociology of Art) and Digital Arts (MFA), with a focus on performance and video art. Since 2021, she has been pursuing a PhD in Media Art specialising in XR, motion-capture performance, streaming, liveness, and video games. In the summer semester of 2025, her PhD research was hosted at the Department of Transmedia Arts, University of Applied Arts Vienna (Die Angewandte).
She holds Unreal Engine certification from UT-HUB (ES) (2023), specialising in CGI environments, camera work, lighting, and animation, and a diploma from CGI school SKVOT (UA) (2024), focusing on 3D character creation, 3D textiles, and avatar optimisation.
Her work has been shown internationally, including at Centre Wallonie-Bruxelles (Paris, FR), Deep Space 8K @ Ars Electronica Center (AT), Zinnema Brussels (BE), Ars Electronica Festival (AT), Hellerau Biennale (DE), Friche la Belle de Mai (FR), Centre Pompidou (FR), Goldsmiths College, University of London (UK), Kunsthalle Exnergasse (AT), MUZA National Museum for Art (MT), Fondazzjoni Kreattività (MT), Milan Machinima Festival (IT), Frieze Art Fair (NYC), and The Box at Phillips (NYC), among others.
